Abstract

Background: Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the gastrointestinal tract and includes ulcerative colitis (UC) and Crohn’s disease (CD). They mainly affect young populations, altering their quality of life and increasing morbidity, compared to the general population. Objective: provide a comprehensive understanding of the global patterns, underlying causes, and clinical manifestations of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), including Crohn's disease (CD) and ulcerative colitis (UC). The article explores the geographical distribution, environmental and genetic factors contributing to IBD, common clinical presentations, advancements in diagnostic techniques, therapeutic approaches, and their impact on patients' quality of life and healthcare systems.
