Abstract

The principal function of the prostate is the production of ejaculate, or essential secretions for semen, which ensure the viability of sperm. Cancers of the prostate gland cells are prevalent, especially in middle age and old age. Millions of men throughout the world are affected by prostate cancer. It accounts for 7% of newly diagnosed malignancies in men globally (15% in industrialized regions)
and is the second most common cancer in men, after lung cancer. Age, ethnicity, and family history are examples of modifiable risk factors for prostate cancer; dietary factors, level of physical activity, smoking, and obesity are examples of modifiable risk factors.
