Abstract

Background: Childhood nephrotic syndrome is a relapsing glomerular disorder in which corticosteroids remain central to induction of remission and treatment of subsequent relapses. Most children with steroid-sensitive nephrotic syndrome respond rapidly to prednisolone, but frequent relapses and steroid dependence can result in substantial cumulative corticosteroid exposure during critical periods of physical, endocrine, skeletal, and psychosocial development.
