Background: Sepsis is a major cause of acute decompensation, organ failure, and mortality in patients with cirrhosis. Early recognition and accurate risk stratification are essential, yet conventional clinical and laboratory indicators may be difficult to interpret in this population because cirrhosis profoundly alters systemic hemodynamics, immune responses, hepatic metabolism, and organ reserve.
