Abstract

Background: Spontaneous bacterial peritonitis (SBP) remains a major cause of deterioration in decompensated cirrhosis. Ascitic 
polymorphonuclear neutrophil counting is indispensable for diagnosis but does not fully represent endothelial injury or circulatory 
failure. Mid-regional pro-adrenomedullin (MR-proADM), a stable fragment released with adrenomedullin, reflects inflammatory 
and vascular stress
