Introduction: carpal tunnel syndrome is one of the most common peripheral neuropathies, which usually evolves to chronicity, causing a negative impact on the quality of life of the individuals that suffer it, and, in some cases, it is a cause of incapacity to work, provoking considerable healthcare expenditure. Objectives: to evaluate the effectiveness and efficacy both of the diagnostic test and forms of physiotherapic treatments that scientific literature offer us. Methodology: a bibliographic search in the following data bases has been carried out: Medline, PubMed, Peter, The Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews and Ebsco. They include the works related to the objective of the present text. Descriptors used have been carpal tunnel syndrome, physiotherapy, therapy, test, diagnosis, etiology; The quest covers studies from the year 1983 to the 2008. Results: the studies consulted reflect than the different forms of physiotherapic treatment are effective with the exception of the magnet therapy and the laser therapy.
he most sensitive and specificity test is the sign of Durkan followed in sensibility and specificity by the Pahlen’s test and Tinel’s sign. Conclusions: there is a need for larger studies that vouch for the effectiveness and efficacy of diagnostic and treatment techniques for the carpal tunnel.
