OSTEOPATHIC TREATMENT OF CERVICAL SPRAIN. COMPARATIVE STUDY INTRAFFIC ACCIDENT INJURIES*

Objective: To consider that the treatment' of cervical sprain by osteopathy, offers a diminution in the sessions front classical methods of kinesitherapy, electrotherapy and thermotherapy.
Methodology:
— The experimental group are 94 patients treated by osteopathy
— The control group are 94 patients treated with classical methods of Physiotherapy.
Procedure: 380 patients which suffer traffic accidents with a cervical sprain as result, were selected.
All of them started and ended the treatment between 1-1-99 and 31-12-00. The fact of curing was given by medical Services of mapfre Mutualidad.
— Inclusion criterions: Cervical sprain diagnosed by Medical Services of Mapfre.
— Exclusion criterions: Cervical sprain diagnosed by Medical Services of Mapfre which presented previous cervical pathology, children before 18 years old and pregnant women.
Results:
N° of patients with cervical sprain treated by osteopathy: 94
— N° of patients with cervical sprain treated with classical methods of Physiotherapy: 286
— N° of sessions in patients treated by osteopathy: 493
— N° of sessions in patients treated with classical methods of Physiotherapy: 6580
— Average of sessions of treatment for patients by osteopathy: 9,5
Average of sessions of treatment for patients with classical methods of Physiotherapy: 23
Conclusion: There is a significative diminution of 13,5 sessions in patients treated by osteopathy front patients treated with classical methods of Physiotherapy.
