Abstract

Background: Multiple myeloma is a biologically heterogeneous plasma-cell malignancy in which survival is determined not only by tumor burden, cytogenetic abnormalities, and response to therapy but also by host-related factors that influence physiological reserve and treatment tolerance. Nutritional impairment is increasingly recognized as one of these determinants. Patients with multiple myeloma are particularly vulnerable to malnutrition because of advanced age, chronic systemic inflammation, renal dysfunction
