Abstract

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have garnered significant attention due to their adaptability and versatility in various applications such as gas adsorption, energy storage, and catalysis. One of their emerging applications is in the development of efficient electrocatalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR), owing to their highly tunable structures, large surface area, and controllable porosity. This paper explores the synthesis of non-precious metal nanocatalysts derived from MOFs, focusing on both metal free and metal-incorporated carbonaceous materials used for ORR electrocatalysis. The study highlights the challenges associated with MOF-derived catalysts, examines various strategies for improving catalytic efficiency, and provides insights into the future directions of MOF-based materials in energy conversion technologies.
