Abstract

The review of the role of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) in developing youth and its possible role
in National Human Capital Development in India. NCC is a voluntary organization that has contributed to
developing leadership, discipline, physical fitness, and resilience among school and college students. However,
because of capacity constraints, enrollment into NCC is only about 30% of students. The review emphasizes
that NCC training helps in the overall development of the youth by tackling issues of academic pressure,
emotional stress, and societal expectations that the youth of today are facing. Moreover, it highlights the need
for policy changes to increase the reach of NCC by including it as an elective subject in the school curriculum
and making it a compulsory activity in educational institutions. We reveal the lasting effect of NCC training in
making former cadets career-ready, resilient, and have a positive outlook in their professional lives, as former
cadets share with us
