Introduction: dry needling is an election technique in the invasive treatment of myofascial trigger points (MTrPs), post-needling soreness being of the handicaps. In turn, kinesiotape (KTP) is proposed as possible neuromodulator of pain due to its physical properties. Objectives: this study raises the possibility of using KTP in the neuromodulation of post-needling soreness. Material and method: pilot study, randomized, controlled, single-blind trial. Participants: 35 subjects aged 22 to 50 years (mean age 30.2857 years, SD: 8.4664), 17 females and 18 males were screened for the presence of MTrPs in the upper trapezius muscle (tender band and local pain). Intervention: subjects were randomly allocated into either treatment: control group (dry needling) or treatment group (dry needling and KTP). Out-come measures: post-needling soreness was measured after the treatment with a verbal numeric scale of pain and was recovered post-intervention, after 24, 48 and 168 hours. Results: there are not statistically significant differences between control and treatment group. Conclusions: post-needling soreness seems not to be modified by the use KTP over the needled muscle.
