EFFECTIVENESS OF TREATMENT WITH NEUROMUSCULAR TAPE IN PAINFUL MUSCULOSKELETAL AREAS
Keywords:

Introduction: there is not enough evidence of the use of neuromuscular tape as a treatment for pain and it has not been proven effective to reduce pain. Objective: to determine the effectiveness of neuromuscular tape as a treatment for pain in musculoskeletal physiotherapy students of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla. Materials and method: this is a prospective, longitudinal and experimental study. It was conducted in the period between august-September 2014 in a probabilistic sample of 48 patients with musculoskeletal pain. They were randomly di-vided into two groups (treatment group = A, placebo group = B). In both groups the decrease of pain was measured with visual analogue scale, numerical scale and algometer pretest tape application and post application of the dressing. A correction of space was used with group A and a placebo application with neuromuscular tape with group B. The efficacy of tape in both groups was determined immediately after application and 3 days post application. Results: 47 patients, 24 in group A and 23 in group B. A statistically significant decrease in pain was found (p < 0.05). However, when groups were compared not statistically difference in pain relief was found (p > 0.05). Conclusion: under the experimental conditions of this study, the neuromuscular tape is not greater than the placebo application to decrease pain.
