Background: Chronic periodontitis is a prevalent inflammatory condition that has been linked to various systemic diseases, including metabolic syndrome. This review aims to synthesize evidence on the impact of chronic periodontitis on systemic inflammatory markers in patients with metabolic syndrome, exploring the potential for periodontal therapy to modulate these markers. Methods: We conducted a comprehensive review of studies that measured systemic inflammatory markers (CRP, IL6, TNF-α) in patients with both chronic periodontitis and metabolic syndrome. Relevant databases were searched for studies published up to 2023, and both cross-sectional and longitudinal studies were included.
