Electrotherapy in temporomandibular pain dysfunction
Keywords:
Electrotherapy, temporomandibular pain dysfunction syndrome.Abstract
The temporomandibular joint painful syndrome carries a variety of signs and symptoms that can be combined in different manners depending on the development and state of the derangement. The diagnosis is based on the painful temporomandibular joint palpation, muscular hyper sensibility, articular sounds and limitation of the mandibular opening.
In addition, it is likely to find headaches as an adjunct symptom. This paper deals about three mo¬
alities of electrotherapy (short wave, ultrasounds and laser) used in the management of the painful temporomandibular dysfunction syndrome.
Their effectivity is compared with a placebo group. It has not been found any difference with statistical significance regarding the success of any of the modalities among them, but each modality was significantly better than the placebo
