Abstract

 Pain is a subjective sensation difficult to measure, which, at the moment, constitutes a nosologic entity. The Guide to Physical Therapist Practice recommends a deep examination of this entity. This article aims to present diverse possibilities of measurement and valuation of pain using different scales and questionnaires, usually used in the Health Care, and therefore, susceptible to be used in Physiotherapy. There is a great variety of instruments for measuring pain adapted to subjects particular circumstances like age, cognitive or motor deficiencies, and in function of the characteristics of the pain, like intensity, duration and frequency, among others.
