Abstract

Introduction: the myosfascial pain resulting from the stimulation of one or some myofascial trigger points is one of the most frequent causes of skeletal muscle pain. If this pain is not treated the problem could perpetuate and as a consequence of this the rest of the treatment could be useless. The infraspinatus is one of these muscles that presents these trigger points and this is the reason why the mobility of the shoulder is limited to the movements of abduction and internal rotation. Objective: to evaluate the immediate effectiveness and one week later of the deep dry needling in the inactivation of the three myofascial trigger points of the infraspinatus. Material and method: this is a randomized clinical trial study carried out in Unit Cemtro Physiotherapy Clinic, and in which 21 subjects with latent trigger points tenderness as the diagnostic criteria described by Travell and Simons. Once that the technique was applicable, the valuation of the pressure pain threshold was made before, immediately afterwards and one week later made. It was made with a pressure algometer. The post needling pain evaluation was made with visual analogue scale when the implementation of the technique was finished. Results: the results of this study show that this technique has effectiveness on the trigger points and these results are very statistically significant (p < 0.005). This effective-ness is sustained with statistically significant results (p = 0.033) and very significant (p < 0.001) to the trigger points number two and three respectively. Conclusions: the results show the effectiveness of the deep dry needling technique in the inactivation of the myosfascial trigger points of the infraspinatus. This technique is valued as lightly painful by persons of this study.
