Background: self-management Education Programs should be considered as a basic feature of the treatment for patients with respiratory diseases. Nevertheless, the way the health staff has carried out the measure of the efficiency of the surveys´ results impedes seeing the benefits in the application of this training. The objective is the assessment of the methods and efficiency of the training applications in patients with chronic respiratory diseases. Methodology: qualitative systematic review. The consulted data bases have been PubMed, Cochrane and Web of Science. 30 studies that fulfilled the inclusion criteria were included. The PEDro and SIGN scales were used as a methodological quality criterion. Results: educational Interventions are applied heterogeneously.
Group and individual interventions were carried out, with written information about the disease and self-management in most of the cases. Educational interventions showed more efficacy than no intervention at all. In asthma results show and improvement quality of life (HRQoL), a reduction of healthcare costs and improvement in self-management in COPD intervention improve HRQoL, physical capacity and reduce hospitalizations. In cystic fybrosis education intrevention improves self-awareness that brig positive changes although it is not clear that changes will persist over time. Conclusions: educational interventions show statistically significant benefits in relation to the usual treatment. However, there is no uniformity in the implementation of education programs.
