Abstract

Background: Ulnar-sided wrist pain represents a frequent and diagnostically challenging clinical problem because of the compact
arrangement and functional interdependence of the osseous, ligamentous, tendinous, cartilaginous, neural, and vascular structures along the ulnar aspect of the wrist. Clinical manifestations are often nonspecific, and several disorders may coexist or produce overlapping symptoms. Conventional radiography remains the initial imaging modality for assessment of alignment, fracture, degenerative change, and ulnar variance; however, it provides limited evaluation of the triangular fibrocartilage complex, intrinsic and extrinsic ligaments, articular cartilage, tendons, bone marrow, and neurovascular structures. Magnetic resonance imaging has therefore become an important noninvasive tool in the investigation of persistent or unexplained ulnar-sided wrist pain
