Abstract

Multiple sclerosis arises from an evolving interaction between peripheral immunity and compartmentalized central nervous system injury. Monocytes and monocyte-derived macrophages participate in leukocyte recruitment, bloodbrain barrier disruption, myelin phagocytosis, cytokine production, oxidative injury, and tissue remodeling. Highdensity lipoprotein is equally relevant but biologically more complex than its routine cholesterol concentration suggests
