Abstract

Background: Anemia remains one of the most common and clinically significant complications of chronic kidney disease (CKD), particularly among adults receiving maintenance hemodialysis (MHD). Although impaired renal erythropoietin production is considered the principal mechanism, anemia in this population is multifactorial and is influenced by iron dysregulation, chronic inflammation, uremic toxins, nutritional deficiencies, shortened erythrocyte survival, and resistance to erythropoiesis-stimulating
