Abstract

Background:: Isoprenaline-induced myocardial injury is a reproducible experimental model used to investigate the biochemical and cellular consequences of excessive β-adrenergic stimulation. At high doses, isoprenaline markedly increases cardiac workload and undergoes auto-oxidation, initiating reactive oxygen species generation, lipid peroxidation, calcium dysregulation, mitochondrial impairment, inflammation, and cardiomyocyte death. These interconnected abnormalities resemble important components of acute myocardial injury, although the model does not reproduce coronary atherothrombosis in humans.
