Background: Chronic lumbar facet joint pain is a major contributor to chronic low back pain and represents a significant source of disability, impaired functional capacity, and reduced quality of life worldwide. Lumbar facet joints account for approximately 15–45% of cases of chronic axial low back pain, yet accurate diagnosis remains challenging because of overlapping clinical manifestations with other spinal pain generators, including intervertebral discs, sacroiliac joints, and paraspinal structures. Diagnostic medialbranch block has become the accepted reference standard for identifying facet-mediated pain, while interventional procedures have gained increasing importance in patients who fail conservative management.
