Abstract

Background: Portal hypertension is a major consequence of liver cirrhosis and is strongly associated with the development of esophageal varices (EV) and variceal hemorrhage, which remain important causes of morbidity and mortality in cirrhotic patients. Early detection and  risk stratification of EV are essential for preventing life-threatening bleeding
