Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by impaired insulin secretion or resistance, leading to significant morbidity and mortality. Global age-standardized fatality rates due to diabetes increased by 3% between 2000 and 2019, with a 13% rise in diabetes-related mortality in lower-middle-income countries.
