Medicinal plants serve as valuable reservoirs of bioactive compounds with therapeutic potential. This
study investigates the phytochemical composition, antioxidant capacity, antimicrobial properties, and
anti-proliferative activities of Arbutus pavarii and Rosmarinus officinalis L.. A. pavarii was collected
from Al-Marij in El-Jabal El-Akhdar, Libya, which, are of widely recognized with their significant
pharmaceutical and economic importance. Extracts from both plants were prepared using methanol,
chloroform, and n-hexane. The leaf extract of R. officinalis exhibited moderate to strong antimicrobial
activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, showing greater efficacy against
Gram-negative strains. In contrast, A. pavarii leaf extract displayed limited antimicrobial activity,
primarily against Gram-negative bacteria, with no antifungal effects observed for either extract. Antiinflammatory potential was assessed using the albumin denaturation inhibition assay. A. pavarii leaf
extract demonstrated moderate activity, with an IC50 of 66.77 µg/mL and significant inhibition at
concentrations of 62.5 µg/mL or higher. However, R. officinalis showed superior anti-inflammatory
effects, with an IC50 of 33.36 µg/mL and high potency even at lower concentrations. Both extracts
exhibited anti-cancer properties, though with differing levels of effectiveness.
