Abstract

Drugs administered systemically can have off-target effects, which have made it difficult to design and develop novel therapies with the best possible efficacy and therapeutic index. In these regards, there are high hopes for the development of site-specific drug delivery solutions. Over the past three decades, a significant amount of effort has been put into comprehending and overcoming the biological barriers that prevent targeted drug delivery and distracting: developing techniques to remove such difficult barriers.
