Abstract

Background: The avian infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) is a widespread virus that specifically targets the
upper respiratory tract, kidneys, and reproductive system, it has a huge economic impact on the poultry business,
costing millions of dollars globally each year; there is a wide variety of IBV vaccines that protect against
different serotypes of the virus but the absence of cross-protection between imported vaccine strains and field
strains may explain the inability to implement an effective vaccination program against IBV.
