Abstract

Introduction: study carried out with the objective to compare the limits of dynamic postural stability in patients with and without temporomandibular disorders (TMD). Material and method: forty patients were tested and diagnosed with the diagnostic criteria of temporomandibular disorders (DC/TMD); 75 % female average aged 27.7 ± 9.5 and 40 controls without TMD, paired by age and sex without significant differences in body mass index (BMI) between groups (p > 0.05). The 80 patients were tested with the Biodex® Stability System under previously established protocol. Comparison of the LDPS results was performed with the Student’s T test and Mann–Whitney U test, statistics significance < 0.05. Results: the limits of dynamic postural stability (level 8), in their majority showed better stability in the cases than the controls. At level 2, all the markers showed more stability in the cases than in the controls. None of these comparisons were significant (p > 0.05). Conclusion: the limits of dynamic postural stability in both groups do not differ significantly.
