Keywords:
facial edema, maxillofacial surgery, bandage.Abstract
Introduction: the facial edema, both primary and secondary, is a rare disorder and has been neither studied extensively nor treated. Case report: ee report the case of a 30 year old woman suffering edema after maxillofacial surgery causing physical and psychological discomfort. Objective: it shows the physical therapy intervention relating to evaluation, using a tape measure, and treatment, combining Vodder method of manual lymph drainage and neuro-muscular bandage. Results: after treatment we find a decrease in edema and quick improvement of sensitivity and pain, which disappeared during the first week of treatment. Measuring from certain anatomical references in order to evaluate facial edema, though not an established protocol, is a simple and objective way to record data and to estimate the evolution of treatment. Conclusion: this approach can be considered an effective posurgical treatment for maxillofacial pathology.
