Background: hemiplegia, as a result of stroke, has a high prevalence and incidence, and that is the reason why we pay special attention to it in the field of physiotherapy. Objective: to carry out a systematic review to summarize the evidence of those techniques based on gait training robotic devices, like Lokomat and Gait Trainer, applied on the re-education of hemiplegic stroke patients. Material and method: the search was carried out in the following databases: Web of Science, CINHAL, PUBMED, PEDro and SCOPUS. The methodological quality was assessed using the JADAD score, the CASPe modified guide and the modified Quality Index Items from CONSORT. The articles selection was based on randomized controlled trials whose experimental treatment was based on Gait Trainer or Lokomat. Among an extension of 24 documents, 10 were firstly excluded for not having direct relationship with the topic, afterwards other 7 articles were excluded for not fully meeting the inclusion criteria. Results: 7 artiles were selected for the systematic review: 4 referred to Gait Trainer and 3 to Lokomat. Conclusions: the use of Gait Trainer is justified in acute stroke patients in order to improve gait functionality and gait speed. Chronic stroke patients could benefit from gait training programs. The use of Lokomat is not justified in acute hemiplegic patients but its use in chronic patients is warranted to improve balance, mobility and gait speed. Future research is recommended.
